MI LAN XIANG No.18 is a classic representative of the Honey-Orchid style within Fenghuang Dancong. The moment hot water wakes the dry leaves, an intense honey sweetness and a clean orchid fragrance rise at once — high, bright, and lasting. The liquor is a bright golden orange; on the palate it is mellow, fresh, and smooth, with a full honeyed body and a quick, lingering sweetness that coats the throat and refuses to fade. A cool mineral "mountain rhythm" runs through every cup, and the aroma still lingers after more than ten infusions.

  1. Warm the wares

Rinse the gaiwan and cups with boiling water to raise the temperature and clear any chill, so the aroma opens up fully.

  2. Add leaf, smell the scent

Place 7–8g of leaf into the gaiwan, give it a gentle shake, and breathe in the honey-orchid sweetness that rises at once.

  3. Rinse with boiling water

Fill with 100°C water from a height, do one quick rinse and pour it off to awaken the leaves and lift the surface foam.

  4. Pour and serve fast

For the first three infusions, pour within 3–5 seconds; then add 5–10 seconds per round to savor the honey body and aftertaste.

Tip: Dancong is best enjoyed as gongfu cha — a small gaiwan and fast pours reveal its aroma layers best. Shorten the steep if it tastes too strong; never over-steep, or bitterness creeps in.

The Tea Garden

From the Misty Highlands

MI LAN XIANG No.18 comes from the core growing area of the Fenghuang Mountain range in Chaozhou, Guangdong. Sitting at 700–1000 m, the gardens are wrapped in mist year-round, with ample rainfall and sharp day-night temperature swings. The granite-derived soil is rich in minerals and trace elements — ideal for tea. Slow growth in the cool, cloudy highlands builds dense inner compounds, giving Fenghuang Dancong its signature "mountain rhythm".

Fenghuang Mountain still holds over 15,000 tea trees older than a century — a vital gene bank for Chinese oolong and a cradle of the Chaozhou gongfu tea culture.

The Tea Tree

The Mother Bush

The MI LAN XIANG mother plant belongs to the Fenghuang Shuixian cultivar, propagated clonally as a single "Dancong" bush. The tree spreads openly with gnarled, vigorous branches; its leaves are long-elliptical, slightly blistering and thick. Spring buds flush around the vernal equinox and are picked at Guyu — only two harvests a year, in spring and autumn.

Scarce in yield yet singular in fragrance, Honey-Orchid has been a classic prized aroma of Fenghuang Dancong since ancient times, and a daily "base aroma" for Chaoshan tea drinkers — loved for its soft, smooth cup and clean honeyed sweetness.
